Okean of Emotions: Ukrainian is the language of the heart...

Чому Француженка вивчає українську мову?

тому, що це мова серця!

(Why a French woman is learning Ukrainian?

Because it's the language of the heart!)

Westerners & Ukrainians are used to ask me this question: "Why do you learn Ukrainian language? Do you have any relatives or friends in this country? Are you doing business over there?... What's the reason of it? It's a beautiful but difficult language!"
I fully agree with this comment :) but "because it's difficult" is not a reason not to try! To tell you the truth, I speak Ukrainian poorly - even if I'm working on it everyday since January 2014... but I now dare to write a few words in that language to my friends - and it's a personal victory as they understand what I'm saying. :)

In fact, my interest for Ukrainian language & culture is an old story - as I explained in an older post. I was 8 years old and I wanted to sing the beautiful folk songs of this country... :) Writing poetry in French, my mother tongue, drove me to Vakarchuk's songs... and his music is the reason explaining that I finally decided to learn this language.

Since I started to learn Ukrainian, several things have changed in my soul... and I've finally found who I am! :) I'm not joking. This is a very strange feeling... But there are no surnatural causes to this. Indeed, this is very logical because thanks to this:
  • I've improved my own poetry writing skills - as I'm translating Vakarchuk's lyrics into French (a hard work that I'll have to explain later... but I really enjoy doing this!)
  • I created this blog in English and I can use this language in a different way than the one I'm used to at work.
  • I've got virtual friends all over the world with whom I share the same interest for Okean Elzy music.
  • I can finally use my knowledge of Russian language with the members of the official fan-club. Until then, I didn't know what to do with it...
  • I'm finally learning Ukrainian... which is of no use at all, as most people think  - from Los Angeles to Vladivostok and from Oslo to Pretoria... not to mention Ukrainians who seem puzzled by this strange idea. :)
  • Family & friends now understand why I learn it: I'm giving a hand to Slava for his communication in France... :) They kept telling me "This is of no use... you're wasting your time!" and it was sometimes complicated to explain that "I'm wasting my time the way I want!" :)
"Do you speak Ukainian? YES!"

So, the other day I came to this conclusion:
  • French is the language of my soul
  • English is the language of communication
  • Russian is the language of culture
  • ... but Ukrainian is the language of my heart! I know that since I'm 8 years old... Why did I wait 30 years to finally speak with my heart?
I posted these words on the web - in Ukrainian, of course! - and I shared it with some friends &... with Mr. Vakarchuk. :)
It seems that this personal feeling found resonance with him as he also shared it on Twitter - to tell you the truth, I was just amazed about this: if I'm used to be inspired by his words, I never thought that one day he could relay my ideas! :)))

I think that this is due to the fact that he could have said some of these words too. And I suppose that this true declaration of love of a French woman to Ukrainian language is rather surprising and can have a positive impact on his readers. :)
Well. We'll have to speak of this when we will meet! For sure, this day will come... For the time being, we can only share feelings on the web! :)

Svyatoslav Vakarchuk's birthday - Fan-art

As said in my last post, we celebrated Slava Vakarchuk's birthday a few days ago. As usually, fans have been very inventive and, on that occasion, they created some interesting artworks... Here are some of them!

'Happy Birthday, Svyatoslav!'

Let's start with this video... 7 countries, 68 cities & 350 folks: Great!

My friends at the Official fan-club are incredible! Every year, they have some new funny ideas... and they work hard to make sure their projects become a reality. This is one of the reason why I love them so much - but this is not the only one! :)

I also like this video: It's simple and beautiful!

Please note that a new small bronze statue is looking for its place in Mukacheve city - Vakarchuk's hometown . :) It has been created by the Transcarpathian artist, Mikhail Kolodko

Lastly, I want to share with you this video created by the TV Channel 1+1 for Slava's birthday: the whole history of O.E. in a song...

Everything really began with this song, "Там, де нас нема  - Tam, de nas nema"... in 1998!

Okean Elzy: Paris concert, 5 April 2015

Finally, here are some pictures & videos of the concert at the Olympia Hall!

As said in an older post, I had the pleasure to manage the official communication of this concert with French media. It was quite challenging because I had only a few weeks to do so... but it was a great experience! I would like to thank again Svyatoslav Vakarchuk & Okean Elzy Official team for the trust they have placed in me. I really appreciate the chance they gave me.

Needless to say that I'm still lending a hand via the new Official Twitter account for French speakers: @OEFrance. I'm sure that a lot of things can happen now, but we have to maintain regular contact with media and fans!

Honestly, I think that I could write a book about this concert... :) But to make a long story (quite!) short, here are the most important information about this amazing evening:

At first, I would like to answer to the question that everyone is asking me since a few weeks: "So, Alexa, did you finally meet Svyatoslav?" :))

The answer is "No!"
- No? But how the hell is it possible?!!
- First of all, because I haven't asked for it...
- ... Really? Are you stupid or... what?!!
- :)) I'm, probably! But the main reason is that I knew that he would be very busy, that he was there to perform a show, to share a moment with his fans and that he also had to answer to journalists... Of course, I would have been very happy to exchange a few words with him, but things should happen when time has come... It was not the right time!... That's all! But I know that he wanted to speak with me before the concert - the organizer of the show was so happy to inform me about this! :)
Unfortunately, we didn't manage to meet each others... As expected, Slava was too busy! But we exchanged a few words via Twitter later and we agreed on a meeting in Paris or in Kiev. That's nice!

Returning back to the concert, all I can say is that Okean Elzy on stage at the Olympia Hall was amazing because there was
  • More than 1500 spectators
  • A multicultural audience with Ukrainians, French, Russians & Belarusians people
  • A warm and festive atmosphere
  • Boys with the blue & yellow Ukrainian flag
  • Girls wearing vyshyvankas (traditional embroidered blouses) & flowers in their hair
  • Warm smiles on everyone's faces
  • A time for sharing while respecting differences
  • About a 3 hours show with energy and emotion
  • 23 songs for a musical journey between alternative rock... and romantic ballads
  • Svyatoslav Vakarchuk's warm voice singing about love, freedom & hope
  • A loving tribute to Edith Piaf...
Feel free to read on the web the a/m Press Release that I created to thank medias & fans.

Svyatoslav Vakarchuk: "To remember", a video to recall lessons of World War II

Many countries are celebrating these days the end of World War II... This sad period of human history changed forever the lives of many families across the world, including mine.

70 years after this war, it is opportune to say that we must learn from the past!

© New Ton Studio
A few days ago, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk recorded a video message for Victory Day. Many opinion leaders from around the world have been invited to participate to this social campaign "To remember". Clips are broadcasted on several Ukrainian TV channels.

Here, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk raises the issue of civilian casualties in Ukraine: "One in five Ukrainians died during World War II. All those who fought against Nazism deserve remembrance and all our respect. No matter under what flag they went to their mortal combat!"

The video ends with a red poppy - the symbol of the memory of victims of war and civil conflict - and the words "To be remembered."

"1939 - 1945 Never again", in Ukrainian

It should be noted that, for the first time in Ukraine’s history, May 8 has become the Day of Remembrance for World War II victims
. Please watch the Euronews video:
